Questions & Answers

Yes, we do supply replacement covers for the product and you can order those online at www.pillows.com.au under the accessories dropdown product covers and slips.Sizing is 42cm across x 40 cm x 2.6 cm (thin) x 7 cm (thick)
Excess body weight can increase pressure on the coccyx, exacerbating pain. Using therapeutic cushions designed to accommodate heavier individuals, like the Diffuser Coccyx Cushion - Bariatric, can provide necessary support and alleviate discomfort, improving overall comfort for patients.
Recommended cushions for coccyx pain include the Diffuser Coccyx Cushion, Diffuser Coccyx Cushion - Bariatric, TheraMed Multi-Purpose Cushion, and Coccyx Tailbone Wedge Cushion. These cushions offer targeted support, enhance comfort, and promote proper spinal alignment.
Therapeutic cushions, such as the Diffuser Coccyx Cushion and TheraMed Multi-Purpose Cushion, provide targeted support, reduce pressure on the coccyx, and improve posture. They help alleviate pain and discomfort, making them an effective complement to chiropractic treatments.
Chiropractors can help alleviate coccyx pain through spinal adjustments, soft tissue therapy, ergonomic advice, and recommending therapeutic cushions. These treatments reduce pressure on the coccyx, improve spinal alignment, and provide pain relief.
Coccyx pain, often caused by prolonged sitting, trauma, or degenerative conditions, can lead to discomfort and significantly impact daily activities. Chiropractic care, combined with supportive tools like therapeutic cushions, can help alleviate this pain and improve quality of life.
The posture wedge should help but we don't think you require the coccyx wedge. Please consult your doctor though to make sure the angle the posture wedge puts you on will be the correct angle just to be sure.
The coccyx wedge is not made of memory foam as it would tend to collapse too much and would not work the way it is supposed to. The diffuser coccyx does contain memory foam and works very well but it is a fair bit bigger than the wedge. It is very well suited to everywhere except for car seats.
The coccyx cushion may cause some sweating under your bottom as the cover is waterproof and does not breathe as much as the dura fab cover. The steri cover is designed to be hospital grade and easily wiped down if being used by different people. If the product is just for you we would definitely recommend the dura fab cover which is the more preferred of the two coccyx wedge covers.
I would recommend the coccyx wedge cushion. It should relieve pressure from the tailbone area and make travel more comfortable.
The coccyx wedge is also good for pelvis pain. It will help with your posture which may be more beneficial than the diffuser coccyx which will be more comfortable under the buttocks.
We would recommend the coccyx wedge as a general support cushion that should give good support including tilting the pelvis a little and providing relief for the coccyx at the same time.
The coccyx wedge is not a memory foam product. However, the diffuser coccyx cushion is memory foam if that is your preference. Both are good products, but it just depends if you are looking for pure comfort (the diffuser coccyx is best) or to sit on an angle and improve your posture where the wedge is the best.
Yes, the diffuser is a memory foam and in my opinion is a more comfortable product. The wedge is slightly firmer but does have the advantage of being better for your posture by tilting your pelvis and making you sit more upright.
Yes, cover can be removed for cleaning but is also easy to wipe down the steri plus as it is water proof.
It is quite a firm cushion so will not collapse at all. Designed to give the coccyx relief and comfortable enough for the rest of the bottom.
Yes, certainly.
The coccyx wedge cushion is a little bit firmer and will place you on an angle which will help you with your posture and building core strength while sitting. The diffuser coccyx cushion is more comfortable but is a flat surface so will not give the same postural benefits.
The human coccyx is often considered a vestigial remnant of a tail - so the coccyx is often referred to as the tailbone.
The word coccyx comes from the Greek word kkkux for cuckoo and Latinised it as coccyx. The name was derived from the tailbone's shape, which early anatomists thought it resembled a cuckoo's beak. The coccyx is the end of the spine. The human coccyx is composed of 3-5 individual segments the coccygeal vertebrae. (In 80% of people, the coccyx is made up of 4 coccygeal vertebrae).
Pain in the area of the coccyx (tailbone) is called coccydynia or coccygodynia (or sometimes a variety of other spellings). Coccydynia can be anything from discomfort to acute pain, varying between people and varying with time in any individual. The name describes a pattern of symptoms (pain brought on or aggravated by sitting), so it is really a collection of conditions which can have different causes and need different treatments. Coccydynia can follow falls, childbirth, repetitive strain or surgery. In some cases the cause is unknown. The pain can disappear by itself or with treatment, or it can continue for years, and may get worse. It is five times more common in women than men, probably because the female pelvis leaves the coccyx more exposed.
The wedge is 7cm at the back and goes down to about 2cm at the front.
We have two products that should both be suitable and both will stop your mums coccyx from touching the ground. They are the coccyx diffuser cushion - most comfortable and very supportive. and the coccyx wedge which will tilt the pelvis for better posture and support. For indoor go for the dura fab cover and for outdoor probably the steri plus cover as easier to maintain. We ship daily to the US and normally will be dispatched within 3-5 business days.
It is washable but just hand washable. There will be instructions on the tag inside the zipper that are very easy to follow. Just clean with warm water in mild detergent and then hang to dry.
The cushion is 42cms across x 40 cm x 2.6 (thinnest side) and 7cms high (thickest side).
You can either have a greenish colour in the steri plus which is the waterproof version or the suede version is in Charcoal which is the most popular and is called dura fab.
We think the product should work very well for the coccyx relief but perhaps might be a good idea to mix it up between the two products if pressure sores area concern. The coccyx wedge is a medium density foam so should be comfortable enough but it is of a certain hardness to maintain its shape and integrity for coccyx relief which is its primary function.
The Coccyx wedge and the Coccyx cushion should provide some relief. The cushion is memory foam and softer whilst the wedge is quite firm and encourages better posture.
Simple difference is the steri plus is waterproof but unless that is required then we always tend to recommend the dura fab which is a suede material.
No, the wedge is not available in the memory foam as we think it would be too thin. We do however do the coccyx diffuser which is in memory foam albeit a bit thicker.
Yes, there is a firmer layer of foam inside the product in the middle and this will assist with giving the product extra support as well as comfort for the coccyx area.
Our Thera Med Bariatric Coccyx cushion may be an option. It is a much firmer cushion designed for larger frames. There are two sizes, 50 x 45 x 10cms and 56 x 45 x 10cms
The tailbone wedge cushion would be more for if you had coccyx pain and required relief in that specific area. If you are experiencing lower back pain only then the posture wedge would be more suitable.
Our main range of cushions is a medium-density foam option. Our more heavy-duty product would be the Bariatric diffuser cushion which can be purchased with or without the coccyx cut out.
Yes, it can be used in bed as well as on a chair.
We would suggest looking at the complete sleeprrr and naturelle latex range as they both offer medium-density support and the heights can be adjusted. These pillows are also both suitable for tummy and side sleepers.
The main difference is that the diffuser cushion is the same height across the product whereas the tailbone wedge tapers off towards the front creating a high back section of the cushion. This is typically more suitable for customers that are shorter as it ensures that the feet still touch the ground when using it on a standard chair. The wedge also can provide further relief by taking almost all pressure off of the coccyx area.
We would suggest speaking with your health professional in regard to what items they would suggest. As we are not health professionals, we cannot provide a guaranteed recommendation.
Yes, we would suggest this product for use in a recliner to provide coccyx relief. The other alternative that may also be suitable is the wedge version.
