How to wash feather pillows?

To wash feather pillows, start by checking the care label on the pillow for any specific instructions. If the label allows, you can begin by removing the pillowcase and placing the pillow in a washing machine. It’s important to use a gentle cycle and mild detergent to avoid damaging the feathers. To ensure a thorough clean, add a couple of tennis balls or dryer balls to the machine, as they help to fluff up the feathers. Once the washing cycle is complete, remove the pillow and gently squeeze out any excess water. Then, place it in a dryer on a low heat setting, along with the tennis balls or dryer balls, to help restore its fluffiness. It’s essential to ensure the pillow is completely dry before using it again to prevent any mould or mildew growth.

If the care label advises against machine washing, you can still clean your feather pillow by hand. Fill a basin or bathtub with lukewarm water and a small amount of mild detergent. Submerge the pillow and gently squeeze it to allow the soapy water to penetrate the feathers. After a few minutes, drain the water and refill the basin with clean water to rinse the pillow thoroughly. Repeat this process until the water runs clear. Once rinsed, gently squeeze out any excess water and place the pillow on a clean towel to absorb more moisture. Finally, allow the pillow to air dry completely before using it again. Remember to fluff it occasionally during the drying process to prevent clumping of the feathers.
