Supporting Deaf Ministries International
We're proud to continue to support Deaf Ministries International (DMI), a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to empowering Deaf communities across Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.
DMI provides vital access to education, vocational training, and sustainable employment, helping Deaf individuals achieve independence and dignity. Their projects, which include schools, workshops, and self-sustaining farms, break the cycle of poverty and foster confidence and opportunity.
In 2025, we donated pillows and support products to support DMI’s Sydney fundraising event on 13 August, which raised more than $25,000.
This year, we were honoured to support DMI's fundraising event again in Sydney on 25 July and Melbourne on 15 August 2026. Together, the events raised more than $16,000 towards the development of the Burundi Community Centre for the Deaf.
How the Funds Are Making a Difference
In 2025, funds raised through DMI’s Sydney event helped support the expansion of a sustainability farm for the Deaf community in the Philippines, alongside other DMI projects focused on employment, independence and long-term community support.
As DMI shared with us:
“Because of your support, we were able to raise over $25,000. This will enable us to expand and develop our sustainability farm for the Deaf in the Philippines. Additionally, it will aid other DMI projects. This farm and other sustainability projects enable the Deaf in developing countries not merely to move towards economic independence. They also allow the Deaf to live with dignity and confidence. It enables the Deaf to provide for their own families and gain acceptance in society.”
This year, the focus has shifted to Burundi, where a new Community Centre for the Deaf is being built.
Funds raised through the 2026 Sydney and Melbourne events will help support the development of the centre, which will provide a welcoming gathering space, job-skills training and opportunities to strengthen communication between Deaf and hearing communities.
The centre will also include a café to help generate ongoing support for staff and trainers, along with a mango orchard that will provide fresh juice for Deaf school children.
Together, these initiatives reflect DMI’s broader focus on creating practical, sustainable opportunities that can support Deaf communities well into the future.
